Capital Power is currently seeking a highly motivated, commercially minded individual to join our Origination team.

The Origination team is responsible for supporting Commercial Services, Canada West (“CSCW”) through enhancing commodity market (electricity, natural gas and environmental products) liquidity and value creation by executing commercially valuable commodity transactions. Reporting to the Director, Origination, CSCW the Senior Analyst, Origination, Canada West, is accountable to provide commercial and analytical support to the Origination, CSCW team and collaborate with its key stakeholders, including customers, internal peer/cross-functional support groups, Executive and external agencies.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Conducting the varied analytical, modeling, reporting and compliance requirements of the Origination, CSCW team, including customer prospecting, energy consumption / tariff analysis, budget preparation, product development and pricing and customer, corporate business and market reporting.

  • Pricing standard physical and financial, conventional, renewable, retail and wholesale energy products and liaising cross-functionally to structure and price more sophisticated customized and tailored products and services.

  • Managing and executing all commercial aspects associated with administration, reporting, management, and training for Capital Power’s Customer Relationship Management system.

  • Providing cross-functional customer care and support and proactively identifying and completing opportunities to improve customer experience.

  • Coordinating with Capital Power’s retail billing provider (internally and on-behalf of customers) for the maintenance and development of existing and new product and service opportunities.

  • Supporting the development of Capital Power’s responses to commercial opportunities by developing, maintaining, and disseminating market intelligence associated with customer needs and prospective solutions.

  • Ensuring timely, accurate deal entry in accordance with policy and guidelines.

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree specializing in Marketing, Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering or related field.

Experience:

  • 2 – 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

Technical Skills:

  • Commercially focused business acumen, with strong analytical skills and the ability to simply communicate complex issues / challenges and associated solutions, both internally and externally.

  • Knowledge and understanding of the roles, responsibilities and processes (front, middle, back-office) related to delivering energy-related solutions to customers and stakeholders.

  • Advanced application skills related to MS Office Suite (Dynamics CRM, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, PowerBI).

  • An understanding of matters potentially impacting Capital Power’s customers / stakeholders, including energy market dynamics in Alberta and interconnected markets and utility tariffs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, solid negotiation skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under pressure situations.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position.

  • May require intra-Alberta or occasional Canadian / US travel.

Additional Details

This position is based in Edmonton or Calgary.
