Your Opportunity

One Temporary Full Time (Up to 12 months) Position.   

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our IS Network team.

Reporting to the Network Manager, the IS Associate is accountable for supporting the operation of Capital Power’s network infrastructure. This includes participating and ensuring daily operational tasks are completed (including such items as monitoring network health, incident management, change management, network health monitoring, patching, security reviews, etc.) The IS Associate is expected to have strong documentation skills and attention to detail, effective time management, ability to set priorities and meet deadlines, great interpersonal skills, follows best practices, and understand what systems are critical to Capital Power.

 

You will contribute to our team by

  • Providing support services for operations and working closely with our Service Desk and Network Managed Services provider.

  • Supporting sophisticated and diverse set of network hardware and services for multiple business areas.

  • Ensuring team provides highly adaptable and customer-focused support services for all Capital Power business units, including support for the Service Desk.

  • Coordinating and performing appropriate network maintenance reviews of key network systems.

  • Providing support services that meets outlined “Service Level Agreements” in this highly sophisticated “network” environment.

  • Providing input into decisions within the network team – ensuring standard methodology is followed by vendors in relation to network managed services (if required).

  • Participating in the resolution of technical problems.

  • Applying appropriate trouble-shooting skills and ensuring best-practice steps are followed in developing, testing, and implementing solutions.

 

What you will bring to the role  

Education:

  • Student or recent graduate in Network Engineering, Computing Science, Computer Engineering.

Experience:

  • Experience in supporting, design within a corporate network would be an asset but not a requirement.

  • Experience working in a corporate environment as a member of a team would be an asset but not a requirement.

  • Experience in troubleshooting network connectivity issues and provide remediation steps.

Technical Skills:

  • Have a basic understanding of key network infrastructure components, including (not a requirement): Proxy servers and services; Network switches, routers, firewalls; Networking technologies, such as, subnetting, routing protocols (ex: OSPF), Spanning tree, fail-over services, WAN acceleration, MPLS, WAN, SDWAN Services, Cloud Network.

  • Self-motivated, organized, customer focused, detail-oriented, and effective communicator.

  • Problem solving, results driven and action-oriented when working on assigned tasks.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.
