Capital Power is looking for a Director, Total Rewards to join our People Services team!

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, People, Culture & Technology, you as the Director, will be a key member of the People Services leadership team contributing to the development and execution of the overall People Strategy. You will be accountable for the visioning, strategy development and leadership in the execution of the Total Rewards portfolio, ensuring that our programs create an experience that meets the needs of the employee, is inclusive,  competitive, and supports the company’s strategic objectives.

You will contribute to our team by

  • Providing leadership and direction to the Total Rewards team in the research, design, implementation, communication, and administration of a broad range of reward and wellbeing, programs for all levels of employees.

  • Identifying emerging workforce trends related to Total Rewards and develop and implement innovative solutions.

  • Providing advice and counsel on complex Total Rewards issues.

  • Managing risk to ensure that current practices and procedures, as well as any recommended changes, appropriately identify and address potential risks to employees or company financials.

  • Leading the competitive assessment and positioning of all programs and recommend changes if necessary.

  • Ensuring programs are aligned with Board approved philosophy and support the strategic direction of the company.

  • Working closely with external consultants and other third parties to observe market trends, legislative changes and to facilitate data collection to guide effective recommendations and decision making.

  • Supporting the SVP, People, Culture and Technology in the development and preparation of material for presentation to the People, Culture and Governance Committee of the Board.

  • Participating in Company’s Pension and Savings Plans Committee who exercise oversight over all plans on behalf of the Board of Directors.

  • Providing subject matter expertise to support the Assistant Corporate Secretary in the preparation of public disclosure, including the annual proxy.

  • Responsible for the technical and legal compliance of all programs under this responsibility area.

  • Developing and managing the budget ensuring the right balance of controlling costs and the delivery of high quality and effective Total Rewards programs.

  • Developing contacts with national and industry counterparts and associations to ensure awareness of industry trends and best practices.

  • Ensuring the team can meet current and future business needs by developing internal capabilities.

  • Providing strong leadership and direct and indirect oversight to maintain an excellent culture and engaged and motivated team.

What you will bring to the role  

Education

  • Degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field.

  • CPHR designation, Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation, graduate degree or equivalent would be considered an asset.

  • 10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including experience in leading teams of senior professionals.

Experience

  • Demonstrated advanced understanding of compensation, benefit, pension plan design, trends in plan administration and Canadian and US pension/benefit regulation/legislation.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex projects from initiation to implementation to sustainment, to contribute and support the company’s strategy and culture.

  • Experience collaborating and working with executives and senior level leaders.

  • Strong business and financial competence required.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge and awareness of enterprise-wide issues and challenges to ensure broad perspective is applied in issue resolution or solution development.

  • Expertise and knowledge in Executive compensation philosophies, programs, and policies.

  • Strong leadership, planning, team, interpersonal, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.

  • Proven knowledge of job and compensation and benefits design principles.

  • Operates with the highest integrity, appropriately handles information of a highly confidential nature.

  • Through credibility and professionalism, promotes partnerships between individuals and groups throughout the organization and maintains a network of external contacts of leaders and peers.

  • Excels at building partnerships working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to convey complex information to all levels of partners.

  • Has a track record of gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticity.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.

The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.
