About Us


The Media Relations & Communications Consultant, is responsible for assisting the Communications, Marketing and Membership team with the execution of a range of internal and external communications activities over a six-month contract period. A primary function of the position will be to carry out monitoring of traditional and social media channels, and drafting a range of summary reports, to help the organization track key issues and manage reputational risk. The consultant will develop and distribute a morning media monitoring report by 8:30am ET each day. As a result, the working hours for the role are 7am-3:30pm ET Monday – Friday.


  • Prepare the CMPA’s daily internal media monitoring report, compiling news stories that are of interest to the production sector and our members
    • Track and compile all instances of articles mentioning the CMPA
    • Flag and highlight critical issues to leadership
    • Back up to manager for analysis of issues monitoring
  • Lay out and distribute the Daily News Flash for CMPA members
  • Assist with the execution of communications activities related to various advocacy campaigns in support of CMPA policy and advocacy objectives
  • Assist with content development for CMPA social media channels
  • Assist in drafting and posting updates to the CMPA website and project microsites
  • Assist the team with the tracking of media relations activities which summarize incoming media requests, outgoing materials, spokesperson interviews and media coverage
  • Edit and proofread communications materials for the department, such as Press Releases and Notes to Members
  • Assist with the production and distribution of Indiescreen magazine:
    • Participation with other team members in the planning of editorial content
    • Assisting with the development of each issue’s production list
    • Update and maintain the master distribution list for each issue, and assist in the coordination with printing and mailing service providers
  • Assist with department administration duties, including scheduling, document preparation, travel arrangements, expenses, conference calls, etc.
  • Assist the Communications, Marketing and Membership team, in their efforts to provide communications and marketing support for all internal CMPA departments, including Policy, Government Relations, Regulatory, International Affairs, Business Affairs, Industrial Relations, and the CMPA’s BC Producers Branch, as needed
  • Provide analytics support and create summary reports across functions, detailing successes and failures of communication campaigns and strategies
  • Carry out research to support communications campaigns and objectives
  • Others duties, as required


The following competencies and skillsets are required for this position:

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field from a recognized Canadian educational institution
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in media relations, corporate communications, or journalism

Skills & Capabilities

  • Strong PC skills i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, CRM, Adobe photoshop, WordPress, Zoom, Mailchimp
    • Experience with Meltwater or other media monitoring software a plus
  • Familiarity with and comfort using a range of social media platforms
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Focused and detail oriented
  • Adaptable to changes in process, systems, organizational structures, and priorities
  • High standards of ethics and confidentiality to handle sensitive information
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, show initiative and be proactive
  • Able to build and maintain positive and effective working relationships with internal and external parties


REPORTS TO: Vice-President of Communications, Marketing and Membership.

LOCATION: 6-month contract period and can be based in either Toronto; or Ottawa, Ontario. Currently remote work-from-home/office hybrid schedule.
